Bath strike calendar, February 2022

Two union branches in Bath are taking action this month, NEU and UCU.

  • Royal High School, Bath, 10 February, picket from 0700-0900, rally and refreshments afterwards
  • University of Bath, 14-18, 21, 22 February, pickets and teach-outs

Royal High School, Bath, 10 February

For the first time in 149 years, teachers at the Royal High School in Bath will be on strike in a dispute with the Girls’ Day School Trust over pensions. The GDST is trying to take staff out of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and has threatened fire-and-rehire if they don’t get their way.

On the ballot, the NEU got a massive 84% turnout, smashing the Tory anti-union threshold, with a 95% majority for strike action: 80% of the membership voted for strike. More days of strike action are planned if the employer does not see sense.

If you can send a message of support from your union branch, or say hello on the picket, please do: workers on strike appreciate any solidarity from the movement.

The NEU will picket the school from 0700 to 0900 on Thursday 10 February, with a rally to follow, and refreshments. The address of the school is Royal High School, Lansdown Road, Bath BA1 5SZ.
