Bath Trade Unions Council: 18 February 2021 (online)

Present Sisters Phillips (Unite, Treasurer), Kasprowski (Unite), Campbell (Unison), Brothers Carley (UCU, Secretary), Russell (Unite).

Apologies Brother Bampfylde (Unite).

BTUC archive

Brother Brinkworth had been in touch to say that he is moving house and may not have storage space for the historical material from the trades council which he currently holds. It was agreed that Sister Phillips and Brother Carley will arrange to collect the archive from him.

May Day event

Arrangements for a May Day event were discussed. Nigel Costley of South West TUC had said that experience from the 2020 Tolpuddle Festival showed that recorded shows worked better than attempting to play live over the network and it was agreed that we should ask Seize The Day to record a show to be put out on May Day.

Any other business

Tolpuddle Festival

It has been announced that the 2021 festival has been cancelled.

Virgin Healthcare

Virgin are approaching the end of their contract for social care with Bath and North East Somerset Council. In their time holding the contract, their treatment of staff has been appalling and they are currently threatening increased hours and no pay rise. There is a need for a unionizing drive amongst staff and for a campaign against a new contract for Virgin. Agreed that the secretary would draft a template motion for affiliated branches to show their support for Virgin workers.

Colston Four

B&NES NEU and AWP Unison have affiliated to Stand Up To Racism and to the defence campaign for the Colston Four, which is also supported by the TUC.

Unite Day of Action

Announced in support of making the £20 increase in
Universal Credit permanent.
