Branch reports

Unite

A quorate branch meeting nominated Steve Turner as a candidate for General Secretary. The branch has been advising a company on out-of-hours working, a sign of relations with a sensible employer.

The branch has been considering the TUC AI (Artificial Intelligence) manifesto and in particular the implications for “creative” jobs and automation.

UCU Further Education branches in the region have successfully carried strike ballots in pursuit of pay and conditions claims. At the University of Bath, the branch is engaging with the employer on issues related to a return to on-campus teaching.

Unite Community

The campaign to continue the £20 increase in Universal Credit continues with demonstrations in Bristol and elsewhere. NHS demonstration It was reported that there was a good turnout for the demonstration in defence of the NHS on 3 July, with a positive response from the public and extensive coverage on the BBC.

Any other business

It was noted that there is no meeting in August.
